Silver Sceptre sedge
Garden selection; likely {Carex morrowii} or related Japanese species
Overview
Carex 'Silver Sceptre' is a compact white-variegated shade sedge in the Cyperaceae family growing 10-14 inches (25-35 cm) tall and 12-16 inches (30-40 cm) wide. Green leaves with clean creamy-white marginal stripes create a bright, airy shade accent. The 'Silver Sceptre' name evokes a regal wand of white-striped foliage. The narrow arching leaves are clean and refined — the variegation is crisp with well-defined edges rather than blurry or mottled. Semi-evergreen. Clumping. Moist, humus-rich shade. A compact, well-behaved variegated sedge that gives shade brightness without the larger scale of 'Feather Falls' or the cascading habit of the 'Falls' series. Deer avoid sedge foliage.
