Fruit Set

Fruit set depends on successful pollination, adequate temperature, and sufficient plant energy. Tomato flowers require vibration (buzz pollination) for pollen release; temperatures above 90°F or below 55°F impair pollen viability and reduce fruit set. Parthenocarpic varieties bypass pollination entirely. Poor fruit set is one of the most common complaints in container vegetable gardening.
