    Blossom End Rot

    🧑‍🌾 Cultivation Basic

    Also known as: BER

Blossom end rot (BER) is not a disease but a calcium-transport problem. Calcium moves through the xylem only via transpiration; if water uptake fluctuates, the rapidly expanding distal fruit tissue is starved of calcium and cells collapse. Container tomatoes and San Marzano varieties are especially susceptible. Consistent watering matters more than adding calcium to soil.
