Calcium Oxalate

🔬 Anatomy●● Intermediate

Also known as: oxalate crystals, raphides

Calcium oxalate occurs as insoluble crystals (raphides) in plants of the Araceae family (Monstera, Pothos, Philodendron, Dieffenbachia) and many others. All parts of these plants are toxic to cats, dogs, and humans. Contact causes immediate intense burning of the mouth, tongue, and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing.
