Overview
Rhododendron 'Roseum Pink' is a cold-hardy large-leaf rhododendron, growing 72–120 inches (180–300 cm) tall and 72–96 inches (180–240 cm) wide. Soft lavender-pink flower trusses 4–5 inches (10–13 cm) across fading to pink-white in late spring. Classified as an 'Ironclad' — a group of large-leaf rhododendrons that survive zone 4 (−25°F / −32°C) without winter protection. Large dark green leathery evergreen leaves 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) long curl downward in extreme cold — this is a normal defensive response that reduces exposed leaf surface area and prevents desiccation; the leaves unfurl when temperatures warm. Requires acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0) — iron chlorosis (interveinal yellowing) develops in alkaline conditions. All parts contain grayanotoxins — toxic to humans and animals if ingested. Honey produced from rhododendron nectar can contain grayanotoxins ('mad honey'). Deer may browse the foliage despite the toxicity. Zones 4–8. Morning sun with afternoon shade. Well-draining acidic soil. Shallow root system — mulch with 2–3 inches (5–7 cm) of acidic material (pine bark, pine needles). Lace bugs are the primary pest. Phytophthora root rot in waterlogged conditions.
Native Range
'Roseum Pink' is a garden hybrid in the 'Ironclad' cold-hardy group.Suggested Uses
Grown as a specimen, screen, or woodland-edge plant in zones 4–8, spaced 72–96 inches (180–240 cm) apart. Morning sun with afternoon shade. Acidic soil required. The zone 4 hardiness extends rhododendron planting into cold-winter regions. Toxic — all parts. How to Identify

Care & Maintenance
Care Guide
Morning sun / afternoon shade. Acidic soil pH 4.5–6.0 required. Well-draining — Phytophthora root rot in wet conditions. Mulch with acidic material. Leaf curling in extreme cold is normal. Toxic (grayanotoxins). Lace bugs. Zone 4 hardy.Pruning
Deadhead spent flower trusses after bloom. Prune for shape after flowering. Blooms on old wood — late pruning removes next year's buds. Can be rejuvenated by cutting to 12 inches (30 cm) — regrowth takes 2–3 years to rebloom.Pruning Schedule
