Overview

Cucurbita pepo 'Eight Ball' is an annual vegetable reaching 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) tall with a spread of 36-48 inches (90-120 cm) and a compact, bushy, upright habit. A modern hybrid round zucchini, it produces perfectly round, dark green, glossy fruits 3-4 inches (8-10 cm) in diameter—about the size of a billiard ball at ideal harvest. AAS winner 1999. Harvest at 2-3 inches (5-8 cm) for the most tender flesh, or up to 4 inches (10 cm) for stuffing. Creamy white flesh with a mild, slightly nutty flavor. Days to maturity 40-50 from direct sow. Growth rate is fast. More compact plant than standard zucchini—suitable for smaller gardens and containers. Open habit allows easy harvest and air circulation.

Native Range

Cucurbita pepo originated in Central America and Mexico. 'Eight Ball' is a modern hybrid developed for round fruit shape. AAS winner 1999.
