Overview

Philodendron 'Rojo Congo' is a compact self-heading philodendron with deep red new growth, growing 24–36 inches (60–90 cm) tall and wide. The 'Rojo' means 'red' in Spanish — deep burgundy-red new leaves emerge continuously from the center of the rosette, maturing to dark green as they expand outward. The continuous red-to-green color progression means both colors are always visible: red new leaves in the center, dark green mature leaves on the outside. SELF-HEADING — this is a non-climbing, compact, rosette-forming philodendron that does NOT need a moss pole or support. The self-heading habit makes it much more compact and manageable than climbing philodendrons. Reddish petioles (leaf stalks) add additional warm color. Bright indirect light enhances the red coloring. Toxic — calcium oxalate crystals.

Native Range

Philodendron 'Rojo Congo' is a garden hybrid of South American parentage.

Suggested Uses

Used as a compact red-accented houseplant. No support pole needed. The continuous red new growth. The self-heading philodendron for small spaces.

How to Identify

Identified by deep burgundy-red new leaves maturing to dark green in a compact self-heading (non-climbing) rosette form. The red-to-green color progression and the compact non-climbing habit are the combined signature. No support pole needed.
