The pollen-producing male reproductive organ of a flower. Each stamen consists of a slender stalk (filament) topped by an anther, which contains pollen sacs that release pollen grains.

Etymology

From Latin stamen, meaning "thread, warp thread."

Example

Lily flowers have six prominent stamens with large, pollen-laden anthers.
