Also known as: serrulata, serrulatum
A leaf margin epithet describing very fine, small saw-teeth along the edge of a leaf or other organ — a diminutive version of serratus (saw-toothed). The tiny teeth are often visible only on close examination. Appears as serrulatus (masculine), serrulata (feminine), or serrulatum (neuter).
Etymology
From Latin serrulatus, diminutive of serratus (saw-toothed), from serrula (a small saw), from serra (saw).
Example
“Prunus serrulata (Japanese cherry) is the most celebrated serrulatus plant — its leaf margins finely toothed with the small, sharp teeth that give the species epithet its precise meaning.”
