🏷️ Taxonomy●● Intermediate

Also known as: rivulare

A habitat epithet indicating the plant naturally grows along the banks of streams, brooks, or other flowing water. Plants with this epithet are reliably suited to streamside planting and wet, but not stagnant, conditions. Appears as rivularis (both genders).

Etymology

From Latin rivulus (a small stream, brooklet), diminutive of rivus (a stream, brook) + -aris (adjectival suffix).

Example

Mimulus rivularis and Cardamine rivularis both hug the margins of cool, clear streams, their roots bathed in the moving, oxygen-rich water their epithet implies.

Example Plant

🌿Ranunculus rivularis
