Also known as: fluviatile
A habitat epithet indicating the plant grows in or along rivers — either submerged in the current, rooted in the river bed, or colonising the immediate banks of flowing rivers. More specifically riverine than aquaticus (which covers still and slow water) or riparius (which covers the bank zone). Appears as fluviatilis (both genders).
Etymology
From Latin fluviatilis, meaning "of a river," from fluvius (a river), from fluere (to flow).
Example
“Ranunculus fluviatilis and Sparganium fluviatile both grow in the flowing water of rivers and streams — their roots and submerged stems adapted to currents that would dislodge less specialized plants.”
