    Offsets

    /OFF-sets/
    ✂️ Propagation Basic

Also known as: pups, offshoots, daughter plants

Offsets (also called pups or offshoots) are clonal plantlets that develop naturally at the base of a parent plant from lateral buds. They form their own root system while still attached and can be carefully separated and replanted once sufficiently developed. Succulents like sempervivum and echeveria, bromeliads, agave, and many bulbs readily produce offsets. This is one of the easiest and most reliable propagation methods.

    Etymology

From Old English off (away) + settan (to set, place)

    Example

The hen-and-chicks sempervivum produced a ring of offsets that could be gently separated and replanted.
