A location on a stem where one or more leaves are attached, and where buds form. Nodes are critical points for plant growth and propagation — many plants root readily from stem cuttings taken at nodes.

Etymology

From Latin nodus, meaning "knot."

Example

When taking stem cuttings, always cut just below a node where new roots will emerge.
