🏷️ Taxonomy●● Intermediate

Also known as: graminea, gramineum

A leaf epithet describing a plant with narrow, linear leaves that closely resemble grass blades — typically strap-like, parallel-veined, and arising from a basal clump. Appears as gramineus (masculine), graminea (feminine), or gramineum (neuter).

Etymology

From Latin gramineus, meaning "of grass" or "grass-like," from gramen/graminis (grass).

Example

Iris graminea (plum-tufted iris) has the narrow, grass-like leaves typical of some beardless irises, and Sisyrinchium graminoides produces its small blue flowers from clumps that pass easily for grass until they bloom.
