Also known as: filiforme
A morphological epithet describing any plant organ — leaf, stem, root, or petal — that is as slender as a thread. It is applied across a wide range of structures wherever extreme thinness is the defining characteristic. Appears as filiformis (both genders).
Etymology
From Latin filum (a thread) + forma (shape, form), meaning "thread-shaped."
Example
“Juncus filiformis (thread rush) and Cuscuta filiformis both have the characteristic thread-like stems that make them almost invisible until their flowers or attachment points give them away.”
