    A morphological epithet describing a plant with slender, cylindrical, terete stems or leaves that resemble the round-stemmed rushes (Juncus). Appears as junceus (masculine), juncea (feminine), or junceum (neuter).

    Etymology

    From the genus Juncus (rush) + Latin -eus (of the nature of), meaning "rush-like."

    Example

    Spartium junceum (Spanish broom) has the terete, virtually leafless, rush-like green stems that give it both its epithet and its distinctive photosynthesizing stems that function in place of leaves.
