Fertilization

✂️ Propagation●● Intermediate

Fertilization in plants occurs when pollen grains land on a compatible stigma, germinate, and grow a pollen tube down through the style to the ovule. The sperm cell travels through this tube and fuses with the egg cell, producing a zygote that develops into an embryo within the seed. Double fertilization, unique to angiosperms, also produces endosperm tissue that nourishes the developing embryo.
