    Also known as: terminale

A positional epithet describing a flower, inflorescence, or other structure borne at the very tip or end of a stem — the terminal position. It distinguishes terminal-flowering species from those that flower in the axils (axillaris) or along the stem sides. Appears as terminalis (both genders).

    Etymology

From Latin terminalis, meaning "of the end" or "terminal," from terminus (end, boundary, limit).

    Example

Cordyline terminalis (ti plant), named for its dramatic terminal leaf rosette, and Gentiana terminalis both carry this epithet for the prominent structures borne at the tip of their shoots.
