A positional epithet describing leaves, flowers, or other organs that arise from the root or base of the plant rather than from an above-ground stem. Radical leaves form basal rosettes. Appears as radicalis (both genders).

Etymology

From Latin radicalis, meaning "of the root" or "radical," from radix/radicis (root).

Example

Primula vulgaris and many other rosette-forming plants have radical leaves — leaves arising directly from the crown at ground level rather than from a visible above-ground stem.
