🏷️ Taxonomy●● Intermediate

Also known as: rotundifolia, rotundifolium

A leaf epithet indicating the plant has notably rounded or circular leaves — closer to orbicular than to ovate. One of a large family of folium (leaf) compound epithets that are among the most useful for rapid identification. Appears as rotundifolius (masculine), rotundifolia (feminine), or rotundifolium (neuter).

Etymology

From Latin rotundus (round, circular) + folium (leaf), meaning "round-leaved."

Example

Bergenia cordifolia is often compared to Bergenia crassifolia vs. the more circular B. rotundifolia, and Saxifraga rotundifolia (round-leaved saxifrage) has the characteristic almost-circular leaf the epithet describes.
