    Also known as: orbiculare

A leaf or fruit shape epithet describing a structure that is perfectly or nearly perfectly circular — round like a coin or disc rather than oval, oblong, or irregular. Appears as orbicularis (both genders); orbiculatus is the related adjectival form.

    Etymology

From Latin orbicularis, meaning "circular" or "disc-like," from orbiculus (a small disc), diminutive of orbis (a circle, disc, orb).

    Example

Lunaria annua (honesty) has seed pods that are perfectly circular — the orbicular shape that gives the plant its alternative common name 'silver dollars' — and Populus tremula has the circular leaf outline implied by this epithet.
