A leaf shape epithet for foliage cut in a feather-like manner, with segments ranged along either side of a central axis. It overlaps closely with pinnatus, and the two are often treated as interchangeable in plant names. Appears as pennatus (masculine), pennata (feminine), or pennatum (neuter).

From Latin pennatus, meaning "feathered," from penna (feather).
