    🏷️ Taxonomy●● Intermediate

    Also known as: bipinnata, bipinnatum

A leaf structure epithet describing a doubly compound leaf — where the leaflets of a pinnate leaf are themselves divided into further leaflets. Bipinnate leaves have a fine, ferny texture. Appears as bipinnatus (masculine), bipinnata (feminine), or bipinnatum (neuter).

    Etymology

From Latin bi- (twice) + pinnatus (feathered), meaning "twice feathered" or "doubly pinnate."

    Example

Cosmos bipinnatus is named for its finely divided, doubly-pinnate foliage — the feathery texture that makes its daisy flowers appear to float above an airy green cloud.
