Also known as: tripinnata, tripinnatum
A leaf shape epithet for a compound leaf divided pinnately three times over, so that each leaflet of a twice-divided leaf is itself pinnate. The result is a very finely cut, almost lacy outline. Appears as tripinnatus (masculine), tripinnata (feminine), or tripinnatum (neuter).
Etymology
From Latin tri- (three) + pinnatus (feathered, pinnate), meaning "three-pinnate."
Example
“A leaf described as tripinnatus has been divided, subdivided and divided again before the final leaflets appear.”
