Also known as: stone fruit
A type of fruit consisting of an outer fleshy layer (exocarp and mesocarp) surrounding a hard, woody endocarp (the stone or pit) that encloses one seed. Drupes include many important fruit crops: cherries, peaches, plums, mangoes, olives, and coconuts. Aggregate drupes like blackberries and raspberries consist of many small drupelets fused together.
