    A commemorative epithet honouring David Douglas, the Scottish plant collector whose travels in western North America introduced many conifers and shrubs to European gardens. Formed as a Latin genitive, it is indeclinable and keeps the same ending whatever the gender of the genus. Appears as douglasii (all genders).
