Strophiole

A small fleshy or corky excrescence developed on the seed coat next to the hilum in some legumes and other families; often oil-rich and attractive to ants, and used as a diagnostic character separating genera such as Cytisus (strophiole well developed) from Genista (absent or rudimentary).
