    A floral arrangement epithet describing flowers borne in a spike, a dense elongated cluster whose individual flowers are stalkless on the main axis, and the neuter form used where the genus is neuter. A spike differs from a raceme, whose flowers are stalked. Appears as spicatus (masculine), spicata (feminine), or spicatum (neuter).

    Etymology

    From Latin spicatus, meaning "provided with spikes," from spica (a spike or ear of grain).
