patula

A growth habit epithet describing a spreading, open form, with branches, stems or flower parts held wide rather than upright or tightly clustered. The habit is often obvious from a distance and helps separate a species from more compact relatives. Appears as patulus (masculine), patula (feminine), or patulum (neuter).
