    🏷️ Taxonomy●● Intermediate

    Also known as: oblonga, oblongum

A leaf shape epithet describing a leaf noticeably longer than wide — with more-or-less parallel sides rather than tapering in the middle. More rectangular than lanceolatus and less pointed at the ends. Appears as oblongus (masculine), oblonga (feminine), or oblongum (neuter).

    Etymology

From Latin oblongus, meaning "rather long" or "oblong," from ob- + longus (long).

    Example

Rhododendron oblongifolium and Prunus laurocerasus var. oblonga have the characteristically parallel-sided, rectangular-ish leaves the epithet describes.
