A leaf shape that is the reverse of lanceolate — narrower at the base and broadest above the middle, tapering to a pointed or rounded apex. Think of a lanceolate leaf flipped upside down.

Etymology

From Latin ob- (reverse) + lanceolatus (lance-shaped).

Example

Many rosette-forming plants have oblanceolate basal leaves.
