A leaf shape that is much longer than wide, broadest below the middle, and tapering to a pointed apex and a narrower base. The length-to-width ratio is typically 3:1 to 6:1.

Etymology

From Latin lanceolatus, meaning "armed with a lance," from lancea (lance).

Example

Willows are known for their elegant lanceolate leaves that flutter in the breeze.
