Also known as: nidiforme

A habit epithet describing a plant that grows in the distinctive form of a bird's nest — dense outer growth with a hollow depression at the centre. Appears as nidiformis (both genders).

Etymology

From Latin nidus (nest) + forma (shape), meaning "nest-shaped."

Example

Picea abies 'Nidiformis' (bird's-nest spruce) grows in a perfectly nest-like flat-topped, hollow-centred form — one of the most popular rock garden conifers.
