    🌱 Growth Habits Basic

    Also known as: dome-shaped, rounded

A growth habit where the plant naturally forms a rounded or dome-shaped mass, roughly as wide as it is tall. Mounding plants are valued for their tidy, self-contained shape that requires minimal pruning. Many perennials, grasses, and shrubs exhibit this habit. In design, mounding forms provide soft visual transitions between taller and shorter plantings.

    Etymology

    Old English mūn (protection, mound)

    Example

Spiraea japonica 'Goldflame' forms a compact mounding shrub about 3 feet tall and wide.
