🏷️ Taxonomy●● Intermediate

Also known as: imperiale

An epithet implying imperial grandeur — even more imposing than regalis, the word invokes the power and magnificence of an emperor. It is applied to the most dramatic, commanding plants whose sheer presence demands attention. Appears as imperialis (both genders).

Etymology

From Latin imperialis, meaning "of the emperor" or "imperial," from imperator (commander, emperor), from imperare (to command).

Example

Fritillaria imperialis (crown imperial) is the quintessential imperial plant — its towering stem topped by a crown of pendant bells above a topknot of bracts, a truly throne-worthy spectacle.
