    A phenological epithet indicating the plant is active or flowering in winter — an alternative Latin form to hibernus, from the other Latin word for winter. Appears as hyemalis (both genders).

    Etymology

    From Latin hyemalis, meaning "of winter," from hiems/hiemis (winter).

    Example

    Eranthis hyemalis (winter aconite) and Galanthus 'Hyemalis' selections both flower in the depths of winter — their epithet a promise kept in the coldest months.
