A geographic epithet indicating the plant is native to the Himalayan mountain range — the world's highest, spanning Nepal, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, and Tibet. Himalayan plants are often adapted to high altitude, intense UV radiation, and dramatic seasonal variation. Appears as himalayensis (both genders); also seen as himalaicus.
Etymology
From New Latin Himalaya (from Sanskrit Himālaya, "abode of snow," from hima (snow) + ālaya (abode)) + -ensis (of, from).
