Etymology

From Latin Alpinus, meaning "of the Alps" or "of the high mountains," from Alpes (the Alps).

Example

Aquilegia alpina (alpine columbine) and Gentiana alpina grow naturally in rocky alpine meadows and bring high-mountain character to rock gardens.
