    🏷️ Taxonomy●●● Advanced

    Also known as: glutinosa, glutinosum

A morphological epithet describing a plant surface that is intensely sticky or gluey — even more tenaciously adhesive than viscosus. The stickiness may come from resinous exudates, glandular hairs, or mucilaginous coatings. Appears as glutinosus (masculine), glutinosa (feminine), or glutinosum (neuter).

    Etymology

From Latin glutinosus, meaning "glue-like" or "sticky," from gluten/glutinis (glue, birdlime).

    Example

Alnus glutinosa (common alder) has young shoots so resinous and sticky they glue themselves to fingers, and Mirabilis glutinosa produces similarly adhesive stems.
