Elatus

/eh-LAH-tus/
🏷️ Taxonomy●● Intermediate

Also known as: elata, elatum

A size epithet indicating a plant is tall or above-average in height — less extreme than exaltatus or giganteus but still notably tall for its genus. Appears as elatus (masculine), elata (feminine), or elatum (neuter).

Etymology

From Latin elatus, meaning "lifted up" or "raised," from ex- (out) + latus (carried).

Example

Delphinium elatum (tall larkspur) and Geranium elatum both reach the upper limits of height for their genera — the epithet confirming these are the tallest-growing representatives of their kind.
