atlantica
🏷️ Taxonomy●● Intermediate
A geographic epithet with two readings: a plant of the Atlas Mountains of north-west Africa, or one of the Atlantic region. Which sense applies depends on the species it names, so the epithet is read alongside the plant's known range rather than on its own. Appears as atlanticus (masculine), atlantica (feminine), or atlanticum (neuter).
Example
“Cedrus atlantica (atlas cedar) carries the epithet in its Atlas Mountains sense, and Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca' (blue atlas cedar) is its familiar blue-needled selection.”
