🏷️ Taxonomy●● Intermediate

Also known as: aprica, apricum

A habitat epithet indicating the plant grows in, or strongly prefers, open, sunny, exposed positions — the direct antonym of umbrosus. Appears as apricus (masculine), aprica (feminine), or apricum (neuter).

Etymology

From Latin apricus, meaning "exposed to the sun" or "sun-loving."

Example

Saxifraga aprica and Sedum apriculum are both plants of open, sun-baked ground — south-facing slopes where the sun is not merely welcome but essential.
