A plant species that has evolved structural and physiological adaptations for survival in environments with limited water availability. Adaptations may include thick waxy cuticles, reduced leaf surfaces, deep root systems, water-storing tissues, and CAM photosynthesis.

From Greek xeros (dry) + phyton (plant).
