    Also known as: papyracea, papyraceum

A texture epithet describing bark, bracts, husks, or leaves with a thin, dry, papery texture — like paper or parchment. Plants with papery bark often shed it in attractive flakes or sheets and are highly ornamental in winter. Appears as papyraceus (masculine), papyracea (feminine), or papyraceum (neuter).

    Etymology

From Latin papyraceus, meaning "of papyrus" or "papery," from papyrus (the papyrus plant), from Greek papyros.

    Example

Betula papyrifera (paper birch) has the brilliant white, papery peeling bark that inspired its name, and Narcissus papyraceus (paperwhite narcissus) has thin, papery white petals of exceptional delicacy.

    Example Plant

    🌿Cyperus papyraceus
