    A leaf shape that is roughly triangular, broadest at the base with relatively straight sides tapering to an acute apex. Named for its resemblance to the Greek capital letter delta (Δ).

    Etymology

    From Greek deltoeides, meaning "delta-shaped," from delta (Δ).

    Example

    Eastern cottonwood trees have distinctive deltoid leaves that shimmer in the wind.
