    🏷️ Taxonomy●●● Advanced

    Also known as: deflexus, deflexum

A morphological epithet for a part that turns sharply downward from where it joins the plant, whether a flower stalk, a leaf or a branch. It differs from nodding, which describes a gentle droop rather than an abrupt bend. Appears as deflexus (masculine), deflexa (feminine), or deflexum (neuter).

    Etymology

From Latin deflexus, meaning "bent downward," from de- (down) + flectere (to bend).

    Example

A stalk described as deflexa turns down abruptly below the point where it joins the stem.
