A leaf shape epithet describing a heart-shaped leaf — rounded with a notched, indented base where the petiole attaches, tapering to a point at the tip. Appears as cordatus (masculine), cordata (feminine), or cordatum (neuter).

Etymology

From Latin cordatus, meaning "heart-shaped," from cor/cordis (heart).

Example

Cercis canadensis (eastern redbud) has some of the most perfectly heart-shaped leaves in horticulture, and Hosta and Brunnera macrophylla both carry broadly cordate leaves.
