Convallaria

From Latin convallis ("an enclosed valley"), formed from the intensifying prefix con- plus vallis ("valley"), with the botanical suffix -aria. Linnaeus adopted the name for these shade-loving woodland plants of valleys and slopes, and it is the source of the "of the valley" part of the common name.
