    A seasonal epithet indicating the plant flowers or reaches its peak in summer. Less common than vernalis or autumnalis, it marks plants that make their main contribution during the warmest months. Appears as aestivalis (both genders).

    Etymology

    From Latin aestivalis, meaning "of summer," from aestas (summer).

    Example

    Adonis aestivalis (summer pheasant's eye) and various summer-blooming Leucojum species carry this epithet to distinguish them from their spring-blooming relatives.
